Potter’s Farm Retreat Center is looking to hire a part time caretaker. The caretaker(s) will run the day-to-day facilities, grounds and gardens of a northern Wisconsin retreat center and act as a security presence and as a host for guests. The caretaker(s) receive on-site housing including paid utilities in exchange for this work. We welcome couples/partners to jointly apply. Roles and Responsibilities
This position comes with the responsibility to care for the land and its buildings, creating a welcoming and nurturing presence for all who come to plant seeds of beauty, peace, healing and transformation. The caretaker position requires 25 hours per week on average, though seasonal variations in demand do occur. Maintain grounds–Maintenance, design and continued development of landscaping. Mitigating hazards (dead trees and limbs, wildlife, facilities issues) raking, weeding, planting, watering, fertilizing, mowing, snowblowing paths. Tend vegetable, herb and flower gardens. Care for cleaning of lodging facilities and laundering of Guest linens as needed. Maintain buildings–Periodic deep-cleaning of facilities. Carpentry, cabinetry and construction projects; mechanical work, HVAC, plumbing projects; painting, plastering, etc. Stack and split firewood as needed for the fire rings and heating the Yurt. Take care of waste maintenance–composting; transporting trash and recycling to the waste transfer station. Monitor website events calendar in order to prepare for upcoming events. Help with other projects when able and available. Participate in board meetings as necessary. Maintain certifications in first responder and food service certification as mandated by the State of WI. (classes provided and paid for by Potter’s Farm)
Skills and Competencies
At least 21 years of age or older Appropriate work experience, skills, and ability Applicants will be self-motivated, able to work independently, is self-directed, and possesses good management skills. Applicants who have a background or strong interest in nonprofits, carpentry, landscaping, permaculture, sustainability, nature, non-traditional or experiential education, and be respectful of varying spiritual traditions are encouraged to apply.
Education and Experience
Preference will be given to those who have an undergraduate degree, equivalent practical experience or certification in a relevant field.

This is not a paid position. In exchange for 25 hours/week to help maintain the property and provide guest services, the Caretaker receives fee lodging on site. Living on 40+ acres at Potter’s Farm with access to all of our trails, labyrinth, pond, etc. Private housing in Yurt with an efficient kitchen and bathroom; access to on-site laundry facilities. Included utilities: water/septic, electricity, gas, Internet, and firewood. Produce from the Farm’s vegetable garden. Full membership in the local food co-op. Costs for certifications mentioned above are covered by Potter’s Farm, Inc. if the applicant doesn’t have such certifications.
