COME SAIL AWAY

Washburn’s location on the “Big Lake” and proximity to many smaller lakes, rivers, and waterways, make it a haven for boating and sailing enthusiasts.  Whether you are a seasoned sailor or a first-time boater, the area offers plenty of opportunities to explore our pristine waters and carved brownstone cliffs.

If it’s an adventure you seek, Chequamegon Bay has you covered!  In the summer boats dot the coastline, catching summer sun and the cool wind coming off of Lake Superior.  Lounge among the waves for hours, or follow the tides for an adventure.  For those who prefer a more leisurely boating experience, the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is a must-visit destination. With its crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and unique sea caves, the lakeshore is the perfect spot for a guided tour.

Apart from boating and sailing, Northern Wisconsin and Bayfield County also offer several other water-based activities, including kayaking, paddleboarding, and windsurfing. The region is home to several rivers, including the Brule River, which offers some of the best kayaking and canoeing experiences in the Midwest.
